Move over cupcakes and donuts — there’s a popular new sweet treat in town.

Crumbl Cookies, which launched in 2017 in Provo, Utah, is rapidly expanding across the U.S. with over 130 locations, with Loudoun’s first franchise opening this week.

Situated between Potbelly’s and Panda Express in the Target shopping center in Leesburg, the shop is owned by the husband-and-wife team of Dovy and Natalie Paukstys and Dovy’s aunt, Mo Wolthuis.

They were introduced to Crumbl when they lived in Utah, where the Crumbl fad began. Paukstys said several of his friends decided to open franchises, so when they moved to Waterford about two years ago they decided to bring Crumbl with them.

“Everything is made from scratch and fresh,” Dovy Paukstys said. “And every cookie is sold two hours or less from when it is baked.”

He noted that the creative flavors Crumbl offers are a big draw. Crumbl has 136 flavors, with more added each week, he said. Four flavors rotate on a weekly basis, with chocolate chip and sugar cookies available as weekly staples. The menu is the same at each location.

Customers can order in the store on kiosks, with the cookies then being delivered in their signature bright pink boxes. Other ordering options include curbside pickup or Doordash delivery. Catering is also available.

Inside the shop, the open-air kitchen allows customers to see the baking process in action. Some of the cookie flavors include Muddy Buddy, Biscoff Lava, Funfetti, Snickerdoodle, Coconut Lime, Chocolate Caramel, Cranberry Vanilla, Nutella Sea Salt, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, Rocky Road, S’Mores, Orange Creamsicle, among others.

On Wednesday afternoon, a long line of customers patiently waited for their turn to place an order. Dovy Paukstys said they sold 1,400 cookies in three hours at the soft opening on Tuesday night.

One customer, Shannon Behling, said she couldn’t believe her luck that the store opened on her daughter’s birthday.

“We tried them in North Carolina,” she said. “They are the best cookies, we love them. I’m getting these instead of a cake.”

There’s more Crumbl to come in Loudoun — another Crumbl cookies shop owned by a different franchiser is set to open later this spring in the Ashburn Village Shopping Center.
