Members of Girl Scout Troop 40310 have been working hard on various projects in the community, and throughout Seminole County since 2011. Over the past ten years, the Girl Scouts have partnered with the Friendship House and worked with members of the after school ministry to plant a garden, they have picked up trash all over Seminole County, have served annually with the local food pantry and toy drives at Friendship United Methodist Church, and they have staged fundraisers to raise money to build a well in Uganda.
“Troop 40310 has taken many field trips to learn more about the big world outside of our small town, but our favorite part of Scouting is thinking of ways to help those in need in our local community,” commented Senior Girl Scout Arabella Touchton.
Helping those in the community in need, giving someone sad and lonely a reason to be thankful and to smile, and volunteering to work on countless projects are traits each Girl Scout in Seminole County’s Troop 40310 has mastered.
The Troop is currently participating in the City and County’s Beautification Project 2023, and were one of the first groups to sign up for the project’s Adopt-a-Mile program. The Girl Scouts have been working to clean up and green up First and Second Streets in downtown Donalsonville. So, if you see them walking the streets filling black garbage bags, give them a shout our for a job well done.
This past Valentine’s Day, the Girl Scouts crafted hand-painted, heart-shaped cards for the residents of Seminole Manor and Great Gran’s. Since the residents of those facilities haven’t had much contact with outsiders this past year due to COVID-19 and social distancing safety precautions, this was a special treat for them as well as the Scouts.
The arrival of the month of February also meant that Girl Scout Cookie season had officially arrived. Most people do not need too much of an extra incentive to purchase boxes and boxes of those once-a-year treats; however, if you are in need of a little extra motivation to go out and purchase multiple boxes of each cookie variety, the Girl Scouts of Troop 40310 are way ahead of you.
This Pandemic year the Scouts decided to honor the hardworking heroes in the medical fields by treating and thanking each of them with boxes of Girl Scout cookies. “We are asking for your help to make this happen,” added Arabella. Donating cookies is a great way to easily give back to the community, and all you have to do to participate in this effort is to purchase a box, or boxes of cookies, and then donate them back to the Scouts – who will then attach a large, handmade card with the purchaser’s name on it before delivering to healthcare professionals throughout Donalsonville and Seminole County.
“Your generosity supports our only annual fund raiser which provides funds for our yearly troop operations and community service projects,” commented Nicole Touchton, Girl Scout Troop 40310 Leader.
