Here are a number of recalls that have been announced over the past two weeks for food products sold in British Columbia, including almond butter, plant-based meatballs, cookies, and tortillas.
Some of the products are from Metro Vancouver, and all of them are being recalled because they may contain allergens that aren't declared on their labels.
The CFIA announced on February 27 that Federated Co-operatives Ltd. is recalling its Co-op Gold Pure brand Almond Butter—Crunchy Roasted because it may contain cashews not declared on the label.
The affected product is sold in 500 grams with UPC 0 57316 16814 6 and code LOT# 200276 Best Before 30 MAY 2021.
It is sold in B.C. as well as Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories.
Anyone with allergies to cashews shouldn't consume this product as it could cause a serious or life-threatening reaction—there has been one reported reaction and the recall was prompted by a consumer complaint.
Anyone with this product should dispose of it or return it to where it was purchased.
The CFIA stated on February 20 that Richmond's plant-based Happy Veggie World is recalling its Vege Meatball in B.C. and Alberta due to undeclared wheat.
The affected product is sold in 290 gram packages with UPC 131324 and includes all codes for products that don’t have wheat declared on the label.
Anyone allergic to wheat should not eat this product and instead return it to where it was purchased or throw it out.
On February 25, the CFIA announced that Port Coquitlam's gluten-free GluteNull issued a recall for its Goji Berries and Chocolate Cookies due to undeclared milk.
The cookies are sold in B.C. in 320 gram packages with UPC 6 28451 52913 2 and date code EXP06/10/2021.
Anyone allergic to milk shouldn't eat this product as it could cause a reaction and should either throw it out or return it to the place of purchase.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced on February 19 that Unbun Foods is recalling Unbun brand Untortillas (which were sold nationally) due to undeclared egg.
The affected product is sold in 210 gram packages with UPC 6 28250 17903 3 and the following codes:
- LOT CODE: 20308-02 BEST BY NOV: 03 2021;
- LOT CODE: 20310-02 BEST BY NOV: 05 2021;
- LOT CODE: 20316-02 BEST BY NOV: 11 2021.
Anyone who is allergic to eggs shouldn’t consume this product, as it could cause a serious or life-threatening reactions, and anyone with this product should return it to the place of purchase or dispose of it.
The recall was prompted by CFIA test results, and there hadn’t been any reactions reported as of the recall announcement date.
