WAREHAM – Wareham Junior Troop 62117’s Girl Scout cookies were selling like hotcakes Sunday afternoon.
The girls hosted the contactless, drive-thru cookie table Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the old 7-Eleven parking lot in West Wareham, next to the Wareham District Courthouse.
One observer noted five cars taking turns lining up within five minutes of each other a little after 1 p.m.
Had it been like that all day?
Well, no.
It was actually busier in the morning, said Christine Coryer, adult troop leader.
“Some people were here waiting to get their cookies,” she said.
Coryer said that they’ve been able to set up outside large box stores in the past, but not now given COVID concerns.
They essentially needed to find an empty parking lot.
And they found a good one.
The former 7-Eleven’s parking lot has access to both Route 28/Cranberry Highway and Route 58/County Road.
Drivers were asked to enter from Route 28/Cranberry Highway and exit onto Route 58/County Road.
They were asked to wear their masks, and remain in their vehicles. Scouts Bridget Coryer and Hayden Williams went to their windows, took their orders and returned with their cookies and change.
Business was brisk enough so that more cookies had to be brought to the parking lot to replenish their supply in the afternoon. The Shortbreads needed reinforcements.
There was a varied selection featuring the classic registered trademark cookies, like Thin Mints and Peanut Butter Patties, as well as a newcomer - Toast-Yay! cookies, which are crunchy, French-toast inspired and have one side dipped in icing.
Maybe a hotcakes-inspired cookie will one day be created. It couldn’t sell any better.
