RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Staff at Mary’s Mountain Cookies scoop the dough and get the cookies in the oven while also giving back to the community.
“Twenty-five percent of our chocolate chip sales, so that is going to include our regular chocolate chip, the M&M, and the smores. Will go to Children’s Miracle Network, and from Children’s Miracle Network, they funnel the money down to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit here in Rapid City,” says the co-owner of Mary’s Mountain Cookies, Julie Mahaffey.
This is the second year the owners are selling cookies for a cause.
“We actually have personal connections with the NICU unit. Our youngest daughter, who is alive and well, but she spent 74 days there. And I think we were really awakened to like what kind of goes on,” says the co-owner, Rob Mahaffey.
In 2019, they donated a thousand dollars to the Children’s Miracle Network, but the pandemic kept them from holding the fundraiser last year.
“Our goal is to like, of course, is go above the thousand. I would love to see you know two thousand would be awesome,” says Julie Mahaffey.
With many people focused on the pandemic, Mahaffey says it’s important to remember people are still having children.
“And there’s sick babies and their preemie babies, and so that’s still going on. Yeah, so it’s like you know yes, we need to be focused on something’s and then we also need to be focused on the other because we can’t lose sight of that because it’s so important,” says Julie and Rob Mahaffey.
