Take a bite, Clarksville. Actually, take two... or more. Friday is National Cookie Day, and we think it’s a great time to talk about these tasty treats. (Note: It’s always a good time!)

Americans consume more than two billion cookies every year, from rich chocolate chip and warm, spicy snickerdoodle to grainy graham cracker and buttery sugar cookies. Whether you prefer super-sweet, gluten-free or something in the middle, a good cookie hits the spot any time of the day. These hand-sized delights come in just about every shape, form and texture. They’re easy to make and a great way to bond with family and friends, not only during the holidays, but any time of the year.

National Cookie Day has been around since 1987. It’s celebrated on Dec. 4.

Did you know the average American eats nearly 35,000 cookies in their lifetime? How many have you had?

In honor of 2020 National Cookie Day, the Leaf-Chronicle asked Clarksville residents to tell us about their favorite cookies.

What's your favorite cookie?

Jacob Mcgeshick, 16

Favorite cookie: Double chocolate chunk from Subway

“I’ve always loved going to Subway with my friends and family growing up. My favorite desert to get at Subway was the double chocolate chunk cookie. My mother seldom let me have any other desert except when we ate at Subway; they are always best when you take them home and heat them up with a tall glass of milk.”

Ryder Paul, 10

Favorite cookie: Sugar cookie from Great American Cookies

“I love to eat them during the holidays. It’s a time of giving and my Grandma always gives us money to go to the mall and get our favorite cookies. Cookies always make me feel the love in the air.”

Adison Mckee

Favorite cookie: Samoas from Girl scouts

“Samoas are my favorite, the ones you get from Girl Scouts... compared to any other cookie I’ve had, they are delicious. I could eat them all day. I was a Girl Scout growing up so I have a lot of great memories tied to these cookies.”

Briana Woosley

Favorite cookie: Lemon drops from Walmart

“They are so sweet and squishy. They go so well with milk and make my heart smile with every bite I take. It’s the right amount of sweet and tangy. I’ve been eating them since I was a child and they’ve always been my favorite. My best friend even had them at the desert table of her wedding for me.”

Munesh Khiatani

Favorite cookie: Oatmeal raisin made by his wife

“I’m a diabetic and my choices are limited when it comes to sweets. With that being said, when I do decide I want something sweet to eat, I always go with the oatmeal raisin cookie my wife makes weekly.”

Evans Norris

Favorite cookie: Red velvet cheesecake cookie made by his mother

“As a child, my mother could never afford to buy very many sweets, but every holiday she managed to get enough money together for my siblings and I to have one homemade red velvet cheesecake cookie apiece. They were always made with love and her special recipe.”

Makiyah Stennis

Favorite cookie: Oreos

“I love to let the cookies go to the bottom of my cup, then drink all the milk out and get a spoon and scoop the Oreos out to eat them when they are soft. My grandma Elsa always gets me some when we go to the store. I pack Oreos with every lunch I take to school, and eat them after dinner every night before bed.”

Constance Bembrey

Favorite cookie: White macadamia from Subway or Kroger

“I like the combination of the nuts with the white chocolate; it just seems to melt in your mouth. They are different from any other cookie I’ve ever tried, a very uncommon choice of cookie. I do not like macadamia nuts by themselves to eat, but in the cookie it’s a different experience.”
