Destiny 2
BungieAlright, Destiny 2 has launched The Dawning as of reset, and I think I pretty much have a handle on how it’s going to be this year already, as not all that much has changed.
We are, once again, baking cookies, and there are five new recipes to discover which I’m sure the community will work out in short order. We have to deliver them to Crow, Variks and the Exo Stranger for starters, and who else? I don’t know. Shaw Han? Clovis Bray? Frozen Eramis? I guess we’ll find out.
The Dawning gift packages have the potential to give out any of the three Dawning guns, the machine gun and the SMG are returning, but also the new Glacioclasm fusion rifle that seems…I don’t know, fine. I don’t have one yet so I don’t know if maybe it’s a new Erentil, but Fusions have been nerfed pretty hard. Wouldn’t say no to a High Impact/Under Pressure one though. Or Surplus/Autoloading. Guess I’ll try to find those. You can see all the rolls for yourself here.

BungieThe biggest change for The Dawning this year is probably a new community quest that is tied to an exotic ship you get from Amanda Holiday. We have to collective deliver cookies to people as a community, but we can’t see the grand total, only a percentage, I believe. We’re upgrading the ship in some way, I believe with an animated shader at the end of all this, which could be neat depending on how it goes.

That’s the Dawning, for now, unless there’s anything secret I haven’t found in uh, these first thirty minutes, but it’s usually a pretty straightforward event.
Despite a big pop-up about the Hawkmoon quest as you log in, this appears to just be a reminder of the quest from last week, not an indication that the random roll farm version of the quest has gone live, which was confusing at first. Crow may have some new things to say from Dawning cookies and Hunts this week, but there do not appear to be major story developments going on in the Season of the Hunt front.
One thing that did go live this week are raid challenges that people have been looking forward to for Deep Stone Crypt as they try to work their way toward that new title. While some are self-explanatory I think there are a few that people are still trying to figure out how to solve, so that’s probably what you’re going to see content creators working on for a bit here as the weeks press on.
As I’ve said before, I love the aesthetic of the Dawning (time to spend $45 on armor ornaments, sigh), but it lacks an actual “event” attached to it, and this year is no different. So I’m off to run some strike playlists I guess, and see what cookie ingredients I can come up with.
