NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio -- A holiday snickerdoodle cookie is making big news in North Olmsted.
That’s because the tasty cinnamon baked good has been added to the North Olmsted City Schools Food Service’s annual festive cookie trays, which also includes Russian tea, gingerbread, holiday sugar, chocolate crinkle, chocolate chip M&M and peanut butter blossoms in a five-dozen assortment.
“These cookies are delicious,” North Olmsted City Schools Superintendent Michael E. Zalar said. “I’ll definitely be placing an order. My favorites are chocolate chip M&M and holiday sugar cookies.”
The festive cookie tray costs $25. Orders are accepted through Dec. 9 with the pick-up days scheduled for Dec. 11 and 18. Also available is a holiday sugar cookie tray. For more information, call 440-588-5602.
“We’ve been making these Christmas cookies probably for more than 25 years,” said North Olmsted City Schools Administrative Assistant Cheryl Madison, who has been working for the school district for 34 years.
“They’re very popular in the community. There are people who call us every year asking us if we’re doing the cookies again. We have people who buy every year from Medina.”
North Olmsted City Schools Food Service Director Patti Kinch added, “There are a lot of repeat customers. We have quite a following. That includes a mailman who purchases many trays. We also have companies that buy them and give them out to their clients as a thank you.”
While initially orders for the festive cookie trays numbered close to 600, in recent years the break-even effort averages roughly 300 orders.
“The cookie assortment has varied over the years,” Kinch said. "We change it up based on customer requests.
“It’s truly is a community-driven effort. What would a North Olmsted Christmas be without the cookie trays?”
