She says she can’t believe she landed on this show because nothing exciting really ever happens to her. Now she’s on a popular Food Network baking competition with a chance to win $10,000. You can watch Minh Bingham compete on “Christmas Cookie Challenge” airing on Monday, Nov. 30 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Bingham lives in Rochester Hills in Metro Detroit. She was born in Vietnam and grew up in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area after her family moved to the United States when she was a toddler. She moved to Michigan last year where she works as a defense contractor and says she loves it here.

“I took a new job and made the move here. I love living here so far,” Bingham told MLive. “I love the four seasons here. I love the snow. All of this is just novel to me because in Texas it’s just hot and then it’s cold.”

Bingham says she is a self-taught baker who had a big following with her decorative cookie creations back when she lived in Texas.

“I’ve always baked all my life and enjoyed it. A few years ago I started getting into edible art cookies. It was a lot of self-learning as well as learning from others cookie makers. I also attended some cookie conferences, including Cookie Con. So, I’m mostly self taught.”

She says she then created a pretty big customer base, starting with her own neighbors.

“My neighbors wanted me to make cookies for events like birthdays and holidays. Then they told me I should start selling them, so I opened my home bakery and sold to a good customer base in Dallas. But when I moved to Michigan, I had to put my cookie baking on hold because I don’t have a customer base here and I had to sell most of my baking equipment because it was too hard to move them.”

On her episode of “Christmas Cookie Challenge,” Bingham says she competes against four other talented cookie decorators in a timed environment. The first challenge involved making tie-dye cookies in 90 minutes. The second was the big one where the contestants had to create cookie art which looked like holiday appetizers in just two and a half hours.

“It’s crazy because decorating these types of cookies usually takes a day to design, bake, decorate and dry. We had two and a half hours. Doing it in that time is just pretty crazy.”

Bingham says Monday will be the first time she will see herself on the Food Network show. She says she still can’t believe she was chosen to compete.

“I’ve watched every episode and every season of this show. A casting producer saw my Instagram and reached out to me. I almost thought it wasn’t real. After a couple of Zoom calls and interviews, they cast me. This is so amazing because nothing exciting ever happens to me.”
