PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Montgomery County baker said her presidential candidate sugar cookies have become a huge hit in the Philadelphia region and are now being shipped throughout the country to customers who discovered them on social media.
Kathleen Lochel and her husband, Rob, have been running Lochel’s Bakery on York Road in Hatboro since 1995.
She credits social media attention and thousands of hits on her Facebook page for the huge interest in the candidate cookies, which are decorated with names and the election year.
President Trump’s cookie features red colors, and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s is blue.
Lochel said a steady stream of orders spiked this past weekend, with the majority going to California, the Midwest, and southern states.
She and her staff of family and friends have baked and decorated more than 11,000 cookies so far, and she expects that could double in the next two weeks.
“We have quite a few large orders for companies and committees, whether it’s Democratic or Republican. I could predict that right now I’m going to say 25,000 or more,” she said.
Lochel said the bakery is not backing either candidate, but based on sales, Trump cookies lead Biden by 5,000 so far.
But she said anything is possible by Election Day.
