Six Sweet Suffragists! Available this Fall!
The Wilton Historical Society is fundraising by selling “Six Sweet Suffragists” boxed cookies this fall. Timed to coincide with their online exhibition “Citizens at Last: Hannah Ambler, Grace Schenck and the Vote” the individually wrapped cookies feature Wilton and Connecticut suffragists.
The cookies are baked by The Painted Cookie of Wilton, and are a delectable chocolate-dipped Oreo. Local graphic artist Pamela Hovland provided the appealing and timely wrapper designs which were featured in a recent social media campaign to encourage voting. The sets of six are nicely boxed, and are available from the Wilton Historical Society at the weekly Farmers’ Market, or can be ordered by phone or online for safe pick-up. $20 per box. The Painted Cookie’s products are made in a 100% nut and sesame seed-free environment.
The idea of the benefit was a dreamed up by Susan Schmitt, owner of the Painted Cookie. She loved Pamela Hovland’s sticker designs for the League of Women Voters campaign, and thought of the Wilton Historical Society. Cookies were ready soon thereafter. “Susan’s idea is so clever! Plus, it’s a win-win-win all around,” said Allison Sanders, Co-Director at the Wilton Historical Society. “Buy a box and you are supporting a local non-profit, a beloved bakery – and reminding everyone to vote. What could be better?”
